The Revival of Artistic Alchemy

On 8th March 2022 on International Women’s Day, I took part in a magical daytime event in London. An event to celebrate women, love, equality, freedom from bias, and most importantly, love! I joined the event a bit late, around 4 pm, and when I entered the hall, I saw this beautiful woman sitting on a musical stage leading a mediation session.

After all the meetings that I had that day, I was overwhelmed, and as I entered the hall all of a sudden, I felt calm. Maybe it has to do with the vibe of Alexis or the people around who joined the event that day. On the stage was Alexis Corey, who was leading the event. We did 10 mins of mediation, she sang a song that she wrote, and at the end, she opened the floor for people to share their struggles in life and answered a few questions

Few things she shared with the group which touched and moved me deeply:

1. First prioritize your mental health

2. Switch off from watching the news daily if it’s destroying your mental health

3. Who we are and how we are matter to the world?

4. What’s the purpose of your life?

5. How do you want to make people feel when they are around you?

6. Mind exercise is as important as your physical fitness. Take time out to meditate.

7. Meditation can be in any form — Breathing, listening to music, singing, or writing a song.

8. We all have some purpose in life, and we have to get on our journey to discovering it.

She said to us….

“I always thought I needed someone to watch over me and sought the approval and love of others. There’s something so beautiful about being in love…Being cared for…The romance we share between lovers and friends.

But what I’ve found is this — Loving yourself, Loving life, Loving God, that is the journey…

Never seek outside for approval, love and or anything. Last year I learned a lot about how to put myself first. To stop negotiating. To accept and tolerate nothing but the best.

I love people but I will not sacrifice myself, my time or my talents for anyone anymore…

More making people uncomfortable by sharing ridiculously outlandish shit just because it’s fun

More people I admire, respect and trust in my life

I’m so excited to share my journey with you through my songwriting and music…

It’s the best way for me to share what has been in my heart and life over the past few months…

Why don’t we do this thing together?

Why don’t we create what we actually desire and what is divinely ours?

Why don’t we put ourselves first for the very first time and let the noise, distractions of life, the mess of the world, and our hearts aside?

Can you OWN what is rightfully yours?

I DARE YOU”

After the event, I happened to catch up with Alexis and her lovely mom. I told her that I have anxiety issues and I know the purpose of my life, but I am scared to let go of my current lifestyle as it’s comfortable. She said she has been clean for the last 2 years and that the transformation took close to 10+ years. She faced all her issues head-on and worked on herself with the help of mediation, discipline, songwriting, and singing. She shared with me the daily tools that are she uses for her mental health and creativity:

1. Mediation: Take at least 5 to 10 min a day to ground yourself prior to starting the day as well as wind down in the evening from the day’s stressors/events

2. Breathwork: Daily deep breathing helps us to rewire our nervous system which may be storing trauma and unresolved conflict.

3. Movement: Using our body, touch, and dancing to our favorite playlist to get present at the moment supports us in clearing and moving any resistance that may be occurring in the body.

4. Sound healing: Utilize your voice to heal yourself through vocal activation exercises.

5. Create something beautiful: Take time to cultivate your creations and give yourself scheduled space to do so.

6. How you make others feel: Watch people around you and how they react to you. Take feedback, take a step back if you have to work on your approach towards people.

7. Love yourself: Allow no one to hurt you, love yourself deeply. Cut people from your life if they bring negativity to you.

My Reflection & My purpose in life:

After the event, my heart was so full of love and hope. I came back to my hotel and spent some time reflecting on my life. I was brought up in a Hindi culture where my parents taught me “Sanatana Dharma” — A part of living. No lie, do your good karma, be respectful to all races and cast, live with purpose, accept every human being the way they are, and give love.

Having the right values in place, I can see a lot of suffering worldwide. I come from India, where many children die from starvation. I used to work in orphan NGOs in India during my weekends when I used to live there and told people that my dream was to build an orphanage for kids in Sri Lanka, and I am nowhere close to that dream today. As I ask myself why have I not worked on it… the honest answer is — I am scared of failing, I am scared I might not do it right, I am scared to lose my current lifestyle, I am scared of how I will pay my bills while I get on to this journey. Today I feel very passionate about saving our planet and contributing my skills in this area. I want to adopt a fully sustainable lifestyle where I cause minor damage to the plant. I want to work professionally in an industry or firm working towards clean energy / sustainable solutions.

With a dream and a passion in my heart, I feel that I have found the purpose of my life. However, I need to start taking action around it. I believe I have the right values in me, and with a bit of discipline, I would be on track to fulling them.
